What it does need is structure.

For someone trying to lose body fat who has a large appetite, pouring olive oil freely over meals or repeatedly snacking on nuts can make maintaining a deficit surprisingly difficult. The foods themselves are nutritious—the portions simply contain more calories than many people realise.
But now imagine a naturally lean individual who trains frequently, requires 3,000 calories per day and struggles to finish large meals.
For that person, continuously eating enormous salads, mountains of vegetables and only very lean protein could make meeting energy requirements unnecessarily difficult. Adding rice, olive oil, avocado, nut butter or other calorie-dense foods may actually improve adherence.
The question therefore isn't:
"Which foods are better?"
It's:
"What problem does this meal need to solve?"

Add vegetables and/or fruit for fibre and micronutrients, then include carbohydrates according to energy and training requirements. Training Days vs Rest Days in a Body Recomposition Meal Plan
You don't need a completely different diet every time you train.
For many people, keeping calories and macronutrients relatively consistent throughout the week makes adherence easier. There is nothing physiologically wrong with eating carbohydrates on a rest day, and muscle recovery continues long after you leave the gym.
However, some people prefer to distribute more of their weekly calories or carbohydrates around demanding training days. This can help support performance while allowing slightly lower intake on less active days.
Both strategies can work.
If calorie cycling makes your diet unnecessarily complicated, don't use it. If eating slightly more around demanding sessions improves performance and makes the plan easier to follow, it can be a useful tool.
The weekly nutritional pattern matters more than creating seven completely different meal plans.

Can You Eat Out and Still Follow a Body Recomposition Meal Plan?
Absolutely.
A meal plan that only works when you control every ingredient in your kitchen isn't particularly useful for someone who travels, works long hours or enjoys eating socially.
When eating out, precision naturally decreases. Instead of trying to estimate every gram, focus on maintaining the basic structure of the meal. Choose a clear protein source, include vegetables when possible and select carbohydrate and fat portions according to the rest of your day.
You also don't need to "earn" a restaurant meal by starving beforehand or performing extra cardio afterwards.
One higher-calorie dinner doesn't determine your body composition any more than one perfectly measured lunch creates it. Your repeated behaviour across weeks and months matters far more.
